Maricar Reyes is deglamorized as she takes on the challenging role of portraying a greasy vagrant with a gloomy past.

Before the Star Magic talent is seen on the romantic teleserye Precious Hearts Romances, Maricar will be part of the touching drama May Bukas Pa.

She has been through one tough hurdle because of the infamous video scandla but it has just made her stronger and has dared her more to face life head on. As she enters the TV series on primetime, she is set to deal with another challenge: portraying the character of Ina.

Ina (Maricar) is a dirty vagrant with a back story that promises to melt the hearts of viewers. Marami ang humanga sa kagandahan ni Maricar Reyes sa 17th Anniversary celebration ng Star Magic noong nakaraang linggo sa ASAP '09. Isa siya sa mga bagong mukha ng Star Magic na ipinakilala kasama si Zaijian Jaranilla, ang 'Miracle Boy' na si Santino. Ayon mismo sa Star Magic at Kapamilya Network, hindi pa ito ang huli sa kanyang mga appearances.

Sa mga hindi nakakaalam, nakapagtapos si Maricar ng kursong BS Biology at lumabas na sa ilang TV commercials. Unang nakita ang husay ni Maricar Reyes sa pag-arte sa teleseryeng I Love Betty La Fea bilang 'Candy', bilang ex-girlfriend ni Armando (played by John Lloyd Cruz). Ngayon naman, sasabak si Maricar sa isa na namang teleserye at makakasama niyang muli ang bago niyang kapamilya sa Star Magic na si Santino, sa susunod na linggo sa May Bukas Pa.

Toni Gonzaga guests in ‘May Bukas Pa’

Toni Gonzaga is the latest star to make a guest appearance on May Bukas Pa. ABS-CBN.com spoke with Toni on the set of the teleserye and the actress expressed her excitement over being a part of a remarkable show. “Sobrang saya ko at I’m so honored na makapag-guest dito sa May Bukas Pa. Lagi itong inaabangan gabi gabi ng mga Kapamilya natin, maski ako napapanood ko ito. Nakakatuwa ‘yung story at ang galing galing ni Santino, marami siyang nata-touch na lives. I’m so happy to be a part of something this big.”

The 25-year-old actress- host-singer said that viewers must watch out for how her character will be touched by May Bukas Pa’s central character Santino. “Ako si Alex. Tumakas ako sa pamilya ko kasi may ipinapagawa sa akin na hindi ko naman gusto. Abangan niyo kung ano ‘yun. Sa pagtakas ko mag-stay ako sa monastery kasi kapatid ko dito si David Chua. Dun ko makikilala si Santino at siya ‘yung magre-relate ng mga miracles ni Bro.”

Toni admitted that, like previous guest stars of May Bukas Pa, she was amazed with the acting skills of child actor Zaijan Jaranilla who plays Santino. “Nakakatuwa si Zaijan. Wala akong ginawa kung hindi titigan lang siya. Para talaga siyang wonder kid kasi ang bilis ng pickup niya. Ayos siyang makipag-banter. Parang normal na bata na gifted talaga sa pag-arte.”

This is Toni’s first time to appear in a primetime teleserye after her previous series Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik last year. “Excited ako kasi matagal akong napahinga sa teleserye. Nakakapanibago kasi nasanay ako na laging live shows, puro hosting at ibang shows. Ang saya gawin nung mga eksenang nakunan namin. Kakaiba din kasi kapag nandito ka sa set. Iba ‘yung ambiance kaya mararamdaman mo bawat eksena. Lalo na kapag magagaling ang mga co-actors mo, they bring out the best in you.”

Toni’s fans will soon see her in a full-length teleserye in the next chapter of Precious Hearts Romances with Derek Ramsay as her leading man. She will also be doing another primetime teleserye and a movie with Sam Milby. Plus she’s hosting the third season of Pinoy Big Brother.

KC Concepcion returns to TV in May Bukas Pa

Before her first teleserye Lovers In Paris makes its debut, KC Concepcion makes a guest appearance in May Bukas Pa, her first TV outing after last year’s mini-anthology I Am KC. ABS-CBN.com spoke with KC during her taping for May Bukas Pa, and she revealed that she feels privileged to have been given the chance to grace the top-rating primetime teleserye. “It’s an honor to be a guest here in May Bukas Pa. Sa ngayon it’s every artist’s dream to be a guest here kasi napaka-successful ng teleserye. I heard that most of the stories are based on the Bible.”

In between I Am KC and May Bukas Pa, KC did two blockbuster movies opposite Richard Gutierrez, namely For The First Time and When I Met U. KC said that returning to TV acting also called for some adjustments on her part. “Iba ‘yung rhythm ng acting sa movie at sa TV so may mga adjustments akong kailangang gawin. Ang preparations ko lang is I read the script beforehand. The rest as you go along with the scenes na lang. When you’re doing the scenes dun mo lang talaga mapa-process lahat. Talagang naka-hawak ako sa director namin.”

KC went on to talk about the character she will be playing in May Bukas Pa. “Eventually makikita niya kung paanong ‘yung lolo niya napapasaya ng business, ng mga taong nagtatrabaho para sa kanya. Makikita niya kung paano makakaapekto sa maraming tao kapag nawala ‘yung business ng lolo niya. Kaya nagka-change of heart siya.”

The 24-year-old actress-model confessed that she could very much relate to her character. “Ang naka-relate ko kay Abby is that in life hindi lahat ng gusto mo makukuha mo at hindi lahat ng bagay para sa ‘yo lang. You also have to make a sacrifice for other people. Matutunan ng mga viewers ‘yung importance ng love for others and not being selfish. Hindi rin lahat ng gusto mo makukuha mo. You also have to trust God with other plans that He has for you.”

The daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion surprisingly went into fan mode when she met Zaijan Jaranilla, the child actor who plays Santino. “Nakakatuwa si Santino. Kung gaano siya ka-cute sa TV ganun din sa personal. ‘Yung mata niya ang cute. Favorite ko talaga ‘yung eyes niya. Nung una kaming nagkita niyakap ko siya, sabi ko, ‘Picture tayo!’ tapos nag-picture kami sa phone ko (laughs). Nakakatuwa siya.”

Gabby was a past guest on May Bukas Pa, and KC said that she is looking forward to telling her parents the great experience she had on the set. “Kinuwento nga ni dad sa akin ‘yung naging appearance niya. He played a magician. Sayang nga lang hindi ko napanood kasi busy kami taping Lovers In Paris. Tumatawag siya kanina kaya lang hindi ko nasagot kasi tulog ako. Nakita ko lang ‘yung missed call sa phone ko. Siguro nabalitaan na niya na guest ako dito. Kay mama naman hindi ko pa nasasabi sa kanya (laughs). Pero for sure matutuwa ‘yun. Baka mag-request pa siya na siya na ang sunod na mag-guest (laughs).”

Before leaving for Europe for a vacation with her friends, Anne Curtis took the time to shoot her scenes for May Bukas Pa. In this primetime TV series of ABS-CBN, she plays the role of a "goodie good" girl. Viewers will be able to see her on television before she stars in her upcoming "summerserye" The Wedding, which will premiere on May 11.

"Pa-sweet ang role ko dito," explains the former Dyosa star. "I'll be portraying Carla, isang girl na sobrang masunurin, matalino kaya favorite ako ng dad ko, to the point na di na gaano napapansin ng dad ko yung kapatid ko. How I came across Santino is what the people should all watch out for."

When asked to describe her first scene with Santino, Anne enthusiastically said, "Sobrang cute talaga! I love his eyes. Yung mga little nuances niya during the taping makes him so adorable. Magaling umarte ang bata. I'm impressed."

Anne did not think twice when she was offered to appear in May Bukas Pa. "Na-excite talaga ako. Who wouldn't like that offer di ba? Kaya grab na siyempre," she enthused.

May Bukas Pa has been consistently featuring ABS-CBN celebrities as guests every week. John Estrada, Claudine Barretto, Gabby Concepcion, and Dante Rivero have all made their appearance on the show and now, it's Cristine Reyes' turn to carry out an interesting role in the primetime show about an orphan who is touted to be a miracle boy.

Santino's (Zaijian Jaranilla) openly admits his admiration for Cristine Reyes. And as they do scenes together, Cristine is just so delighted to work with the young child star. "Nakakatuwa kasi siya. Marami siyang fans na napapasaya."

With the box-office success of You Changed My Life, Star Cinema seems to have found a promising team-up between Sarah Geronimo and Rayver Cruz. And yesterday afternoon, Rayver confirmed during his contract signing with ABS-CBN’s film outfit that he will be doing another movie opposite the Popstar Princess within the year. “Pumirma ako ng contract sa Star Cinema. Basta may gagawin kami ni Sarah na movie pagbalik niya galing States, kasama din sina Toni (Gonzaga) at Vhong (Navarro). Ngayon pa lang, nararamdaman ko na yung pressure kasi ‘di ba ang tagal ko din bago nagkaroon ng talagang matinong trabaho. So gagawin ko lahat ng dapat gawin para at least mapaganda or mas maging maayos yung gagawin ko ngayon,” he reveals.

The offer came as a surprise to him and he’s not even sure if Sarah knows it by now. “Hindi pa (niya alam) kasi malamang siyempre busy si Sarah dun kasi kinukwento niya sa amin, pagdating niya dun, talagang dire-diretso siya eh, palipat-lipat, puro shows,” he relates. But what really caught the entertainment media’s attention is the fact that Rayver and Sarah have kept in touch since the latter went on tour abroad. “Basta nangangamusta ako sa kanya through text. Hindi ko kasi alam kung nakapagpa-roaming siya pero at least siguro yung sa akin natatanggap naman niya. Oo [nagre-reply naman siya] tapos kapag hindi kaya, through e-mail nangugumusta ako,” he admits in between laughs for he obviously did not plan to let us in on that info.

Although there are reports that Sarah confessed to having a mutual understanding with him, Rayver remains elusive as to what the real score is between them. “Talaga, sinabi niya yun (laughs)? Hindi, basta ang sa akin is hindi kami mahirap magtugma kasi parehas kami ng interests, parehas kaming sumasayaw, kumakanta, yun nga sabi niya parehas kaming isip bata na makulit paminsan...so hindi mahirap mag-jive. Ang sabi niya kasi nung huli ko’ng napanood, kung may mararating, hanggang dun lang.” Being good friends with her is enough for him at this point in time. “Basta ako natutuwa ako dahil mas close kami ngayon dahil sa movie. Kung dati hindi ko siya nalalapitan pag ASAP, at least ngayon nalalapitan ko na siya, nakakausap ko na, masaya ako sa gano’n. Although hindi ko sinasabi na sobrang kumportable ako sa kanya na talagang parang wala nang distansya, ang pangit naman ng gano’n. Pero masaya ako kasi may nabuong friendship,” he clarifies.

Is the reason why he can’t actively pursue Sarah because of her strict mom?“Kay Mommy Divine? Hindi naman. Si Mommy Divine naman kasi is lagi naman siyang nandiyan para kay Sarah kasi sobrang caring niya talaga para sa anak niya. Basta ‘yun. At saka good boy naman ako, Mommy Divine,” he ends with a smile.

In an exclusive interview on the March 23 episode of Showbiz News Ngayon, May Bukas Pa actress Dina Bonnevie talks about the break-up with her non-showbiz boyfriend of three years. Although the veteran actress did not go into details, she shared how she is coping with this change in her life. 'Well, kasi he has to move on to another assignment somewhere else so hindi siya sure kung magugustuhan ko yung place ng new assignment niya. 'Yun lang ang reason kaya masakit. Pero hindi pa siya na-a-assign hanggang ngayon andiyan pa rin siya. Sa akin, at that time, I was just coming from a broken heart. Iniisip ko na lang, maybe God has a reason, maybe he plans to give me something better, somebody better,' she tells SNN. When asked if she has decided to move on, Dina shares, 'Yes, I'm trying my best. Hindi naman siyempre overnight. It takes time,' she adds. She also says she still has her share of admirers, but she has no plans of going on the rebound. 'Maraming umaaligid, but careful na ako eh. Sabi ko, siguro yung next, gusto ko yun na, yung for life na,' she stresses.

The doting mother of Danica and Oyo also shares her thoughts on what's going on with her children. But when asked to comment on her thoughts regarding Kristine Hermosa's annulment, she declined to issue any statement, but instead gives her son some words of advice. 'Ayoko makialam. I mean, even naman si Oyo, hindi siya nag-comment. Kung sa akin lang, if you ask me about Kristine, I've said this many times. Kristine is a very, very beautiful person inside and out. I like her a lot. She's nice and my son, who I believe is a very loving person, alam ko si Oyo magmahal eh, parang ako yan eh. As in, all mine to give talagang to the highest heavens. Minsan wala nang natitira sa sarili so yun lang anak, hinay-hinay lang. masakit pag walang natititra para sa sarili mo, she explains.

Dina is also proud of Danica for being a hands-on mom. 'She's okay naman. Busy mother. Malaki laki na rin yung bata. My grandson is already eight months old," she says. Dina admits that her ex also had something to say about her grandson Jean-Michele. 'Yun pa, sabi ng ex ko, 'you're a grandmother na.' sakit noh' Alam naman niya na parating na yun eh,' she recalls.
